EPIS Starts its 50th Company
Angelfish Microfinance Limited is the fiftieth company to be created through the Edinburgh Pre-Incubator Scheme (EPIS) at the University of Edinburgh
Angelfish Microfinance, facilitates peer-to-peer lending for the business community in the UK by providing an online mechanism for microfinance while sidestepping modern banks. Angelfish will focus on B2B lending in Scotland for small businesses of six people or less. Although focussed on the Scottish Market, we will have UK wide reach, due to regulation. The Angelfish model is based on Zopa.com with whom we are developing a partnership. Zopa has a similar service and model, but is focussed on the UK consumer market. They are not regulated because of their business structure.
Morna Simpson, Angelfish Director said, 'Angelfish intends to develop an online social network with social network features and search mechanisms that are suited to western notions of community. Angelfish customers are categorised into four user groups: borrowers, lenders, mentors and fans who together, create a community that crowd-sources practical business advice and finances to make projects profitable. Loan amounts will range betwen £5K-£15K, with an expected return rate of 9%pa. Lenders are capped at £25K investment.
Added value is generated from lending and borrowing from your direct community, whilst gaining business advice and mentoring from the Angelfish online community. Angelfish give you direct control over your loan investments and provide sophisticated search and rating mechanisms so that you can invest in businesses you know and understand'.
