I'm a fan of Dick Gaughan - I love the delegate guitar playing against his Marianas Trench deep vocal. The songs he sings are the "big ballads" of Scotland with heavy political messages written in large block capitals to avoid any misinterpretation.

While reading the latest about the USA's desire (at least in part) to pump $700bn into the financial world "Freedom Come All Ye" was playing on the Dansette (younger readers can google for Dansette). The lyric that stood out, as I read about George W Bush and co fighting to keep the banking system upright,  was the following...(I've anglicised it):

"theres more than a rough wind blowing through the Great Glen of the world today"

With the turmoil surrounding HBOS, Lehmans, AIG, Merril Lynch et al - there is indeed a lot more than a rough wind blowing through the financial world today. Of course it may be that the worst of the storm is already past or soon will be - but maybe that hope is because it can't possibly get any worse.... can it?
